Charles Babbage(1792-1871) went broke trying to build a general- purpose computing device he called the Analytical Engine. Babbage worked closely with Ada loveplace (lord Byron's daughter), who realized the potential of the machine and formulated basic programming principles. She is credited with being history's first programmer.
